"in 1981 when ana mendieta returned to cuba to
visit her family, she had already been creating
her silueta’s for 8 years. within the context of
her ancestral home this outline of a female form
took on new significance. it is from this
conceptual investigation into the bodily trace
that we have created forma appesa.
hand forged from 12mm steel rod, the
suspended form curves to create a hook for
coats or a dog lead, before continuing down to
another curve supporting a hand turned bowl in
native rimu, poised to catch one's keys or
phone. finished with a torched black surface,
the sculptural design punctuates the entrance
space, without taking up a large footprint."
