forma appesa
by anthea tucker baillie, shay patel and neil buchanan.

statement by anthea tucker baille:
"in 1981 when ana mendieta returned to cuba to visit her family, she had already been creating her silueta’s for 8 years. within the context of her ancestral home this outline of a female form took on new significance. it is from this conceptual investigation into the bodily trace that we have created forma appesa. hand forged from 12mm steel rod, the suspended form curves to create a hook for coats or a dog lead, before continuing down to another curve supporting a hand turned bowl in native rimu, poised to catch one's keys or phone. finished with a torched black surface, the sculptural design punctuates the entrance space, without taking up a large footprint."
